Next Up is run by Grenton Consulting (Pty) Ltd in South Africa ("we"). This page explains what information Next Up uses, why, and what you can ask us to do about it, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). The Next Up app is coming soon; this page describes how it works when it is released.

Riders and horses at shows

Next Up shows information that SA Showjumping publishes on its public riding-order and results pages: riders' names and flags, horses' names and their sex, age, breeding and owner, each class's draw, and results. We show it so that people at a show and following from home know what is on and when.

We do not collect riders' ID numbers, dates of birth, addresses or contact details.

During a show, our team records when each rider enters the arena, scratchings, and late entries made on the day (a rider's and horse's name). This is how Next Up keeps the running order and the expected times up to date.

Junior riders

Many riders are under 18. We show only what SA Showjumping already publishes about them. A rider, or a parent or guardian, can ask us to correct their details or to stop them being followable in Next Up. Write to hello@nextup.horse and we'll act on it promptly.

Your Next Up account

You sign in to Next Up with your email address, or with Sign in with Apple or Google. We keep your name and email address (with Sign in with Apple you can choose to share a private relay address instead), the riders, horses and classes you follow, and your alert settings. We use them to run your account, show you your riders, send you the alerts you ask for, and answer you when you contact us.

To send alerts to your phone, we keep a notification token for each of your devices. Alerts are delivered through Apple's and Google's notification services. You can turn alerts off in the app or in your phone's settings.

Next Up has no advertising, doesn't track you across other apps or websites, and doesn't ask for your location.

Subscriptions

Some of Next Up is part of a paid subscription, bought and managed through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google take the payment; we never see your card details. They tell us which plan you have, whether it is active and when it renews, so the app can unlock what you've paid for. See our terms for how subscriptions work.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app at any time. We then delete your account, what you follow and your devices' notification tokens within 30 days. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription; cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings. Apple or Google keep their own records of purchases.

Children

If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to create an account and to subscribe.

When you use the app or the website

When your phone or browser asks our server for information, the server sees its IP address, as any website does. Our hosting provider keeps this briefly in its logs for security and to keep the service running.

Show staff

People who record riders at a show sign in with an email address and a password. We keep their name, email and a scrambled (hashed) copy of the password, and a cookie keeps them signed in.

Where it is kept, and who helps us

Our server and database run in Cape Town, South Africa, with Vercel and MongoDB Atlas as our service providers. Apple and Google handle sign-in with their accounts, subscription payments and the delivery of alerts. These providers only process information to provide their service to us. We don't sell your information or share it with anyone else.

Results and the records of past shows are kept as a history of the sport. Staff accounts are removed when someone stops working at shows for us.

Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email hello@nextup.horse. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.

Changes

When Next Up changes what it collects, we update this page and the date at the top.
